Culture Talks with Constance Kostrevski

Constance Kostrevski has been taking photographs since the age of eight when she received her first camera from her grandmother. Photography was a family affair; her grandfather was a portrait photographer back in Macedonia. Fascinated by her family’s history and culture, Constance began by taking portraits of her grandmother after school, taking the time to choose her outfits and adjust the setting and lighting. She soon fell into the role of photographer and stylist.

It was her interest in fashion from styling these shoots that inspired her to study fashion merchandising and marketing, earning a BA from the Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago. In 2004 she was one of twelve amateur photographers chosen for a summer residency at The School of Visual Arts, New York.

Constance lived and worked in Chicago, finding inspiration in many places: her vibrant neighborhood of Pilsen, friends, travels, architecture, nature, and music. An adept portrait photographer, Constance's ability to connect with her subjects allows her to not only capture a portrait but also to tell a story. She has defined herself through the people she shoots, allowing her portraits to show that everyone has a story to share. During this time she built connections within the Chicago music scene, hosting the pioneering online music stream Cutz on Cuts, hosting and Djing with the boogie musters and curating Record Store Day 2015 at K Starke records, now Wild Prairie Vinyl & Vintage.

From 2015-2018 She ran an after school program in collaboration with The National Mexican Museum of Fine Art - Chicago, where she taught analogue photography to children aged 7-14. At the same time Constance's love of music developed, releasing records with Beyond Luck and DJ Moppy. As well as holding down residencies at Murasaki, Fox Bar and Booze Box all in Chicago. She has worked with many artists and musicians, including comedian Hannibal Buress on My Name Is Hannibal and Live From Chicago, musician Radius on his album Neighborhood Suicide, musician Moppy on his album The Seven Wonders of the Sea, as well as with musical group The Cool Kids which was included in the “Next 1000” issue for URB magazine. Her work has been featured in print and digital publications, including the Chicago Reader, Chicago magazine, i-D magazine, Time Out Chicago, URB Magazine, XLR8R, Pitchfork and Getty images.

In 2018, Constance relocated to London, UK where she continues to draw inspiration from her new city surroundings. From volunteering at Artbox London, a charity that offers art programs for adults with learning disabilities, to volunteering with the NHS. Her work continues to inspire the art of working and serving her community through her natural abilities to create.

Culture Talks with KEENAN THE FIRST

KEENAN THE FIRST was born and raised in St. Paul, MN; Re-born in Los Angeles, CA ; and currently resides in Chicago, IL on the North side with his wife. He is a rapper with an English degree who thought he was going to have a shot in the NFL, until concussion #4. Now he’s enjoying less head banging in the music industry. You can find his single “Wet” on the in-game soundtrack of NBA 2K22 and the MSG Network.

Culture Talks with Sharon Radigan

Sharon Radigan was Born and raised in Brooklyn NY. City life moved fast, which did not allow her to be surrounded by the beautiful and natural elements of this Earth. That fast paced lifestyle stayed with her for many years. The healing power of nature was not something she fully understood until now. Her curiosity of natural energy, allowed her to explore facets that lead her through a beautiful journey of self discovery.

She knew she loved beautiful things and how they made her feel, which led her to becoming a licensed cosmetologist. Making people feel beautiful and how it impacted their confidence, was always something so powerful to her. A simple change created a shift. However, there was something about the physical changes that still felt superficial.

Moving to the suburbs began her love affair with nature. After experiencing a traumatizing life event, she instinctively started on a path that would lead to, not only her own healing, but understanding more about the energy around us and moving through us. She just moved in the direction that made her feel good to her core. She began to spend more time in nature, along with choosing how and with who she spent her time with.

It was the positive energetic impact that was so powerful. Becoming certified as a Feng Shui Practitioner was the natural next step for her. Still making things beautiful, but with a bigger purpose. The ultimate goal is to help people understand something they can't see. To trust their intuition and hear their own voice.

We give too much of our own personal power away, which can lead to living a life that does not feel purposeful. Understanding how to work with the energies and live in balance with them, opens us up to so much more than the eye can see in physical form.

Culture Talks with Isaac Rocha

Isaac Rocha grew up in the small town of Las Cruces, New Mexico, as the son of Hector and Becky Rocha. He was raised in a faith-based community known as the Apostolic Assembly, where his father served as a minister throughout his life.

In 2003, Isaac graduated from Onate High School with a full scholarship to New Mexico State University. However, he lost the scholarship shortly thereafter. After spending a year at college, he decided to take a break to reevaluate his options—a pause that unexpectedly stretched into 16 years, as he realized that traditional college was not the right fit for him.

Over the past 22 years, Isaac has gained diverse work experience, from fast food and retail to corporate banking and Lyft driving. He has also been involved in church worship singing and leadership, and he now runs his own business from the comfort of his home and phone. His varied skill set allows him to connect deeply with people and serve families across different communities, helping them increase their income, save on taxes and insurance, and ensure they are properly protected.

During this time, Isaac embarked on a transformative 14-year weight-loss journey that saw him shed 80 pounds. This experience elevated his self-love practices and deepened his understanding of self-healing, leading to renewed behaviors, habits, and a holistic transformation in his life—mind, body, and spirit.

Relocating to Phoenix, AZ, five years ago further accelerated his desire for change. The shy introverted child who once hid behind his mother’s dress has become a confident individual. While his quiet demeanor might suggest otherwise, he communicates with remarkable wisdom and clarity.

Isaac identifies as a creative and empathetic person with a profound appreciation for the arts. His passions for food, travel, exploration, individuality, and freedom continue to flourish as he embraces each day. He now strives to live fully in the present moment.

The modern era of music has given way to enigmas and artists of all forms who break the norm of what we have come to expect as far as what an artist truly is. BOYSAINT is one such artist that epitomizes the essence of the modern era. He is a multi-talented instrumentalist and singer born and raised in Las Cruces, NM. Now based in Los Angeles, CA. He is making music that expresses the metamorphosis he’s undergone in his personal and professional life.

BOYSAINT has had a vast array of musical influences. He accredits the most pivotal influences and inspiration in his life to Prince, Jimmy Hendrix, and Santana. While in Las Cruses, singing in his church choir made a significant impact on him, as this experience welcomed more structure and vulnerability into his life. This all culminates in producing a musical experience that is relatable, authentic and grounded in reality.

This Artist captivates the essence of individuality, with an intriguing sound that exhilarates the listener. The rhythmic artist’s latest single “Move” is currently available on all streaming platforms, and he’s eager to collaborate with undiscovered talent on future projects.

Culture Talks with Dawn Donson

Dawn Donson is an educator, a life long learner and a builder of people. She loves to help folks design their best life in health, home, business & overall happiness. Dawn’s entire life has revolved around education, sports, health, art and making people laugh. She knew at a young age that she was destined to do great things, to coach / teach people young and old how to design the best version of themselves.

Her entire life has been dedicated to the education of young people. She received a bachelors degree in special education at Ball State and a Masters in Education from Earlham College. Dawn has retired from the traditional classroom setting and is now using her skills and talents in the non traditional sense through volunteer work, in the arts, Nature Guide & hospital.

She is also in the processes of getting her nutritional coaching certification along with starting her own business in the health and wellness industry. Dawn is a firm believer in taking every opportunity that presents itself, combining all of her loves and empowering others with every to do the same. Dawn believes in hard work and what you practice is how you will play. She believes every situation can be figured out and you have to have fun while in the process of working on you.

Culture Talks with Ingrid Dyer

Ingrid recently moved back to her hometown of Olathe, KS after living in Miami, FL for the last 6.5 years. Due to the pandemic, she was laid-off where she was working as a furniture buyer. She decided it was best to move back to her hometown of Kansas City due to so much uncertainty. Ingrid is 1st generation Mexican American, she was raised in a single parent household where she grew up with an absent father, sexual abuse and at times displaced without a home.

Growing up in the mid-west she experienced colourism within her race and outside of her race due to being a light skinned Latina. Though experiencing adversity in her up bringing Ingrid had the opportunity to attend an art school in Chicago where she pursued her passion and received a degree which allowed her to work for many well-known retailers & brands such as Mango clothing, New Era Cap and ACE Hardware.

When Ingrid is not working the typical 8 to 5 office job she volunteers her time at home taking in foster dogs with the Chain of Hope animal rescue organization. She is also navigating through a health & fitness journey where she is learning to heal from within. Now almost a full year since Ingrid located back to her hometown she literally finds herself in a radical 360 degree “full circle moment” grateful at a second chance to reset her life and find her balance.

Currently Olga Maria serves as the Communications & Operations Specialist for the Health and Wellness department of Chicago Public Schools focused on creating marketing and communications that engage underserved communities, providing access to social services, healthcare and nutrition.

Culture Talks with Nisha Jalmi

Nisha Jalmi, MS (she/her) currently resides in Oakland, California and works as a Vocational Rehab Counselor. Nisha is an intercountry, transracial adoptee from Goa, India. In 2009, she embarked on an international search to reunite with her birth mother. A few years later, her journey back home was featured in the documentary, YOU FOLLOW: a search for one's past .

After the nationwide tour of YOU FOLLOW, Nisha became a public speaker, group facilitator, adoptee advocate, and published writer for PACT: An Adoption Alliance. She continues to share her personal evolution and work by other adoptees at TheAdopteediary.com.

Nisha later realized how her experience of family separation intersected with animal rights, which has led her to live a Plant-based/Vegan lifestyle to combat not only animal cruelty, but also, racism, the current climate crisis and food injustices. Nisha’s passion for adventures and education sparked her commitment to invest in traveling the world with dear friends or alone on the open road. With the current travel restrictions, she has made time to listen and heal without distractions. Nisha values The Universe, herSELF, Mother Nature, personal growth, and new experiences.
